Books about Health- Recommended Reading

Books about health can be found in abundance, they range from being very broad in topic to hitting a very specific health niche.

These books are a sampling of that sort of variety but also encompass the whole spectrum of health that I believe in which is that everything is connected and we must look at the big picture as well as the microscopic details that help us create the health we want.

We Live Too Short and Die Too Long

Author: Walter Bortz, M.D. one of the most respected and acclaimed authorities on aging.

About: Written in 1991 this book was way ahead of its time. Dr. Bortz writes in an easy to understand- “conversation about your health” tone.  The underlying message is that we squander our health as we would never squander money, relinquish our responsibility of caring for our own body with the excuse that we will all die.  The question is how long will you die?

Follow Your Gut

Author: Rob Knight, Director of the Microbiome Initiative and Brendan Buhler, award-winning science writer.

About: This little book is a wonderful explanation of the gut microbiome and how recent research is showing just how important the microscopic life inside our body is to our health, mood, sleep patterns, eating preferences, and susceptibility to disease and factors leading to obesity.  If you want to learn more about the gut microbiome this is a perfect place to start.
